Food in Naples

Food in Naples is quite different from Rome, especially from what I can see in the restaurants around Spanish quarter. In general, food in Naples is said to be better than Rome. Most important, Naples claim they created the pizza and they have since improved on this classic dish. My review is from our lunch at Palazzo Petrucci Pizzeria

Fried Pizza

When I heard about fried pizza, I was thinking that they would batter it and give it a deep fry. There are 2 options to fried pizza in the restaurant. One is fully fried and another is half baked, half fried. Once I sat down and the pizza arrived, I realised it’s the dough that’s been fried, then the toppings are put on top and baked. That makes the dough very fluffy and light, not something I would expect from a “fried” dish. Topping are simple pasata, mozarella and basil but it taste heavenly.

Fried pizza is now on top of my list of pizza “flavours”, if you can call it that way.

Babas

Was recommended Babas as a dessert after our lunch. The way I would explain is a fluffy bread soaked in rum. It is on the sweet side and not very heavy for dessert, pretty much mostly air. The rum gives is additional sweetness without the overpowering alcohol taste.

These are sold in a lot of bakeries in the town.
